Brenda Halley, a lifelong resident of Georgetown in St. John’s, grew up surrounded by a strong sense of community. The youngest of eight children, she spent her childhood playing in the neighbourhood streets and visiting local favourites like Biddiscombe’s Store and WJ Murphy's.
Brenda holds a Bachelor of Arts (Religious Studies) and a Bachelor of Social Work from Memorial University. A registered social worker for over 25 years, she has dedicated her career to child protection, mental health, and addiction services. Brenda is passionate about creating safe, inclusive, and accessible communities, and has worked closely with all levels of government and local organizations to improve services across Newfoundland and Labrador.
An outdoor enthusiast and certified yoga instructor, Brenda loves hiking, biking, gardening, and camping. Whether strolling the neighbourhood with her dog, Rusty, or advocating for environmental sustainability, she blends individual, social, and environmental wellness into both her personal and professional life.
Deeply committed to supporting the local economy, Brenda is a proud supporter of small businesses and an enthusiastic participant in the vibrant arts scene. As a parent and volunteer, you’ll often find her at community theatres, sports fields, or local horse stables.
Now raising her three children in Georgetown with her partner Susan, Brenda values the same sense of community she grew up with. She believes that safe, connected neighbourhoods are the heart of a thriving city—and she’s dedicated to ensuring St. John’s continues to be a wonderful place for all people to call home.
